Guardians Trade Acquisition Sharp In Rehab Start
The Cleveland Guardians made Alex Cobb their sole pitching acquisition before this week’s trade deadline. Cobb, 36, has dealt with shoulder and hip issues, and more recently, a blister, which has limited his pitching this season and lowered his trade value.
The Guardians decided to acquire him, betting on his potential return from rehab. His activation could be imminent, especially after a strong rehab performance for Triple-A Columbus this weekend.
Guardians Prospective reported, “#Guardians RHP Alex Cobb struck out five Syracuse batters today, allowing just one run over 4.2 innings in his rehab start for Columbus. Cobb reached 94.9 mph on the radar gun. His line: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO (69 pitches, 44 strikes).”

It was a positive night for the veteran right-hander. Alex Cobb showed promising results by allowing just one run over 4.2 innings. In terms of workload, he is nearly where the Guardians need him to be. His velocity is already reaching the mid-90s, which is close to his ideal range.
Cleveland may consider activating him from the injured list in the upcoming week if needed, as he appears ready to contribute. When healthy, Cobb could bring a steady veteran presence to the rotation. With a career ERA of 3.85, he could be a valuable asset to the staff, though it remains to be seen if he will immediately return to his previous form. If Cobb can regain his top performance, he could make the Guardians a formidable team in the postseason.
