Rangers captain breaks silence and clarifies his feelings ‘I’m happy to be here Now’

Once again, the New York Rangers fell short of achieving hockey’s highest honor. Although they secured the President’s Trophy with a franchise-record 114 points, started the playoffs with seven consecutive victories, and took a 2-1 series lead over the Florida Panthers, they were eliminated in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals for the second time in three years.

With their season over, speculation began about possible significant roster changes that president and general manager Chris Drury might pursue this offseason. One of the major rumors involves a potential trade of captain Jacob Trouba.

The Rangers nearly traded away team captain Jacob Trouba this summer

The Rangers fans saw Trouba as a key factor in the team’s early postseason exit. However, it was later disclosed that the 30-year-old was contending with a broken ankle, which had caused a “large portion of his ankle” to come off.

Despite this, Trouba’s subpar performance, coupled with his hefty $8 million annual salary and the Rangers’ need for cap flexibility, suggested that a trade might be imminent.

Nevertheless, Trouba’s no-trade clause and the limited number of teams capable of absorbing such a significant cap hit have so far prevented any trade. Now, the Rangers’ captain has addressed the trade rumors publicly.

Trouba clarifies his feelings on the trade rumors and relationship with Drury

Despite speculation that Trouba was unsettled by the trade rumors, the 30-year-old recently addressed his feelings in an interview with The Athletic.

“It was fine,” Trouba stated. “It’s part of the business. I was aware that my contract included a no-trade clause this year, and I submitted a list. That’s all I did. The rest was just noise. I’m happy to be here and excited for the upcoming season. There’s a great opportunity ahead.”

With no trade occurring, questions have arisen about the state of Trouba’s relationship with general manager Chris Drury. However, Trouba assured that there is no tension.

“Yeah, they were great throughout,” Trouba said. “Even going back years, Dru and I have always had a good relationship. We can talk whenever we need to. I think he has a lot of trust in me, and I appreciate that. We’re both looking forward to the start of this season.”

For now, it seems likely that Trouba will remain with the Rangers for the opening night, putting the trade rumors behind him.
