In the past six months, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has had great success recruiting for the Class of 2025, especially within Virginia. Out of the 15 recruits so far, 11 are from the state, which is promising.
On Saturday night, a significant recruit from Virginia made his decision public. While Virginia Tech was among the finalists for four-star athlete Messiah Delhomme, he ultimately chose not to commit to an in-state program, marking a rare miss for local recruiting.
Delhomme, a Newport News native from Warwick High School, chose to commit to the University of Maryland instead of Virginia Tech, despite his high school being the same one where Virginia Tech icon Michael Vick played.
Messiah Delhomme commits to Maryland over Virginia Tech and others
Ranked as the No. 4 recruit in Virginia by 247Sports, Delhomme is the second Virginia recruit to commit to the Terrapins in the past week, following Jalyen Gilchrist’s choice of Maryland over South Carolina and Georgia.
His decision came down to Maryland and Ohio State, the final two schools he visited in May and June, after starting his tour with a visit to Virginia Tech on May 30 and then Virginia a week later. Delhomme is ranked as the 192nd player in his class and the No. 16 safety nationally. He shared his reasons for choosing Maryland with 247Sports.
