Breaking: Detroit Lions lost two former Alabama players to injuries.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell reassured fans that running back Jahmyr Gibbs and cornerback Terrion Arnold will be okay after both players suffered injuries and left the field during training camp on Monday night.

Gibbs and Arnold, who were both drafted from Alabama in consecutive first rounds—Gibbs as the 12th pick in 2023 and Arnold as the 24th in 2024—are facing injury concerns. Although NFL teams aren’t obligated to disclose injury details during the preseason, reports suggest Gibbs has a hamstring injury and Arnold a pectoral issue.

Campbell addressed the situation on Wednesday during an appearance on “Costa and Jansen with Heather” on WXYT-FM in Detroit, noting that his phone was inundated with worried messages about the players. “I got all these people hitting me up about, ‘Man, what happened to Gibbs! Oh my God, TA! It’s done,’” Campbell said. “So anyway, I think we’re going to be fine here. I think we’ll be good.”

Gibbs, who had a standout rookie season with 945 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 52 receptions for 316 yards and one touchdown, did not play in the Lions’ preseason opener. Arnold, however, started the game against the New York Giants but did not record any stats in the brief time he was on the field.

Ennis Rakestraw, the Lions’ second-round pick from Missouri, started at the other cornerback position in the game against the Giants but also left Monday’s practice with an ankle injury.

Campbell commented on the situation, saying, “TA’s been having a good camp before he got hurt the other day. Ennis is having a good camp.”
