Buffalo Bills Acquired Dual Veterans Quarterback and Wide Receiver To Boost Their Corps of Players

As the 2024 NFL preseason progresses, the Buffalo Bills are making final adjustments before the regular season kicks off. The team has faced several significant injuries this preseason, notably affecting quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Chase Claypool. To address these gaps, Buffalo has taken a few steps to bolster their roster.

The Bills have signed quarterback Ben DiNucci to a one-year contract to act as the backup to Josh Allen. DiNucci, who spent last season with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad and in the XFL, previously played for the Seattle Sea Dragons in 2022. There, he started 10 games, achieving a 7-3 record and leading the XFL in passing yards with 2,671.

Originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, DiNucci played in three games with one start, completing 23 of 43 passes for 219 yards. Although he hasn’t been a standout backup in the NFL, the Bills hope he will be a reliable option if Allen faces injury issues this season.

Buffalo has also added veteran wide receiver Damiere Byrd, who played for the Atlanta Falcons during the 2022-2023 season. Byrd recorded 268 receiving yards on 13 catches with two touchdowns for the Falcons. His previous teams include the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, and Washington Commanders.

Over his career, Byrd has accumulated 130 receptions for 1,689 yards and seven touchdowns. While he may not be a primary target in the Bills’ offense, his extensive experience could be beneficial for the team’s younger players.

Given the losses of key players, how do you think the Bills will perform this season?
