Major South Carolina basketball recruiting target Agot Makeer is transferring to a new school much closer to Columbia. The 5-star wing prospect announced on social media that she is leaving Crestwood Prep in Canada to join Montverde Academy in Florida.
Makeer, a top player in the 2025 recruiting class, presents a significant challenge for Gamecock head coach Dawn Staley, who faces stiff competition to secure her commitment. Makeer narrowed her list of preferred schools twice in June and July, with South Carolina remaining among her top choices. Currently, the Gamecocks are competing with Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State, UConn, and Kentucky for her commitment.
Standing at 6’1″ with impressive athleticism and long arms, Makeer is a versatile player who excels in multiple positions on the floor, except center. She is adept at handling the ball and leading an offense, showcasing both offensive and defensive prowess.
Defensively, Makeer’s size and athleticism allow her to guard almost any opponent effectively. Her length contributes to her shot-blocking and rebounding abilities, making her a strong fit for a defense-focused coach like Staley.
Offensively, Makeer is a multifaceted scorer. She is a skilled driver who can navigate to the basket and finish against defenders, and she possesses a reliable jump shot that she can use in both catch-and-shoot scenarios and off the dribble.
Ranked #6 in ESPN’s HoopGurlz 2025 rankings and as the top wing player, Makeer is highly regarded in the recruiting landscape. You can check out some of her highlights [here].
