The cq announced they have signed a corner with starting slot experience to their roster.
The Detroit Lions have announced the signing of nickel cornerback Rachad Wildgoose ahead of their final preseason game for the 2024 offseason.
Wildgoose, a Wisconsin product, was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After being waived and signed to the practice squad, he was quickly added to the New York Jets’ active roster, where he played in five games and recorded three tackles during his rookie year.
The next training camp, the Jets released him, and he was claimed off waivers by the Washington Commanders. Wildgoose appeared in 15 games in 2022, starting three as a nickel corner. He received a one-year contract extension in 2023 but was released again at the next round of cuts.
In July, Wildgoose briefly shifted his focus to the UFL, signing with the Birmingham Stallions for the 2025 season. However, he continued to seek NFL opportunities and eventually signed with the Lions.
The Lions are working to finalize their roster with minimal changes before the regular season. Practices are focusing on preparing the starters, while reserves and players on the roster bubble will have a chance to compete in the upcoming preseason finale.
Wildgoose faces a challenging task to secure a spot on the 53-man roster given his limited time with the team—just one practice and potentially one game appearance. However, he will have an opportunity to vie for a place on the practice squad. He will compete with last year’s UDFA corner Steven Gilmore, as well as newly signed players Essang Bassey and Javelin Guidry, for a potential spot.
