Hokies head coach Mike Young expressed enthusiasm about adding Connor to the team, noting his experience, insight, and adaptability. “Connor is a hardworking player with impressive skills and intelligence—just the type of player we value. We look forward to bringing him in and helping him grow further.”
Connor, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward, has two years of eligibility left. A Tech spokesperson mentioned that he will need a medical hardship waiver since he missed most of his junior season in 2022-23. This season, he will utilize his COVID year of eligibility with the Hokies.
In the 2023-24 season with the Eagles, Serven averaged 3.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game across 31 games. He shot 43% from the field and had three games with double-digit points, including a 15-point performance (5-of-10 FG) against Kent State. He also scored 11 points at Akron (5-of-6 FG) and 10 points at Buffalo, with two of those points coming from beyond the arc.

Serven began his college career as a preferred walk-on at Illinois, where he played for three seasons from 2020-23. During this time, he appeared in 18 games and was part of three NCAA Tournament teams. He was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2022.
In high school at St. Rita, Serven averaged 8.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as a senior. A lifelong Fighting Illini fan, he chose to walk on at Illinois over several Division II offers.
With Serven’s addition, Virginia Tech has completed its roster for the 2024-25 season, filling the last available scholarship. Here’s a look at the roster:
