Former South Carolina football running back Dante “Turbo” Miller was cut by the New York Giants but quickly was re-signed by the team.
Dante Miller, a South Carolina football alumnus, took an unconventional path to the NFL. Initially an All-Ivy League running back with the Columbia Lions, he transitioned to the University of South Carolina’s Gamecocks, where he contributed as a backup running back and on special teams.
His stint with USC was shorter than anticipated due to the NCAA rejecting his appeal for an additional year of eligibility. Nonetheless, having missed the 2023 college football season, Miller became eligible for the NFL draft sooner than most of his peers.
After a strong performance at the Gamecocks’ Pro Day, Miller signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants. He impressed during the summer and preseason but was cut when teams were required to trim their rosters to 53 players earlier this week. However, on Wednesday, it was announced that Miller had been added to the Giants’ practice squad.
Known for his remarkable speed, with a 4.27-second 40-yard dash, Miller remains committed to pursuing his NFL career. With the Giants, he will compete for playing time with Devin Singletary, Eric Gray, and Tyrone Tracey, Jr., all of whom are on the active roster.
Miller’s skills on special teams, including returns and coverage, could help him advance in the team’s hierarchy. Additionally, if given the opportunity, his speed and ability to catch passes could make him a valuable asset as a third-down back.
