Another South Carolina football offensive lineman re-signed to NFL practice squad

South Carolina football Nick Gargiulo was drafted in the 7th round by the Denver Broncos but was cut and re-signed to the practice squad.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, four former South Carolina football players were selected. Wide receiver Xavier Legette was picked in the 1st round by the Carolina Panthers, quarterback Spencer Rattler was chosen in the 5th round by the New Orleans Saints, defensive back Marcellas Dial was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 6th round, and offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo went to the Denver Broncos in the 7th round.

After the preseason, Legette, Rattler, and Dial all secured spots on their teams’ 53-man rosters, while Gargiulo was waived due to roster limitations. However, it wasn’t long before Gargiulo’s situation improved. According to Mike Kils of 9News in Denver, he was re-signed to the Broncos’ practice squad the following day.

Gargiulo now joins fellow Gamecock rookie Dante “Turbo” Miller as a player who was cut but quickly brought back to a team’s practice squad. Despite being the second-to-last player chosen in the 2024 draft and facing a tough road to the Broncos’ roster, Gargiulo demonstrated enough potential this preseason to earn a spot with the team.

With Denver, Gargiulo will add depth across various offensive line positions, particularly guard and center. While he played most of his college snaps at center, his versatility allows him to cover multiple positions. Due to NFL roster constraints, teams often rely on practice squad players for backup roles, and Gargiulo could be among the first called up if injuries arise.

Before joining South Carolina, Gargiulo had a successful four-year stint at Yale, where he served as a team captain and played a key role on the Bulldogs’ offensive line. At South Carolina, he played through injuries but started every game in the 2023 season, contributing as both a guard and center.
