Breaking: Rangers recalled 2 of their key veteran to be their initial September call-ups

White, Ornelas added as rosters expand

With Major League Baseball rosters expanding to 28 players today, the Texas Rangers have recalled infielder Jonathan Ornelas and pitcher Owen White from Triple-A Round Rock.

Among the Rangers’ position players in the minors on the 40-man roster, only three were eligible for recall: Ornelas, Sam Huff, and Dustin Harris. Given that Justin Foscue was promoted yesterday and Ezequiel Duran is already on the roster but not seeing much action, Ornelas may have limited playing time during his stint with the team.

Rangers recall Owen White, Jonathan Ornelas. What's the plan for other September callups?

On the pitching side, Owen White is back in the majors, but his stay might be brief. Jack Leiter is expected to be recalled tomorrow to join the starting rotation, which could result in White being optioned back to the minors.

Alternatively, the Rangers might use this opportunity to evaluate White, who has shown improvement over the past month in the Express bullpen, in a similar role at the major league level. If that’s the case, Chase Anderson, who was brought up to replace Dane Dunning, could be the likely candidate to be moved off the roster.
