Detroit is actively working on a contract extension for McNeill, as confirmed by general manager Brad Holmes. Although the team has recently focused on extending key offensive players, negotiations with McNeill are still in the early stages. Holmes mentioned that while discussions haven’t been intense yet, both sides are aware of the mutual interest in a long-term deal.
McNeill had a standout season last year, achieving career highs with 18 solo tackles, six sacks, and 23 quarterback hits in 13 regular-season games and three playoff matches. The Lions have strengthened their defensive line with the addition of D.J. Reader and the return of Levi Onwuzurike, which should provide McNeill with additional support.
Despite the potential for a new deal, McNeill is concentrating on his performance on the field. He has left contract negotiations to his agents while focusing on preparing for the upcoming season. With his current contract expiring after this season, his priority remains team success rather than personal contract matters.

Although McNeill may not reach the contract figures of Christian Wilkins ($27.5 million annually) and Justin Madubuike ($24.5 million) due to lower raw numbers, his growing market value suggests he will be close behind.
