The Texas Tech Red Raiders announced on Wednesday that assistant coach Joe Hughes is resigning. Hughes has been a significant part of the Red Raiders, serving as both a coach and Director of Operations.
Hughes is leaving college baseball altogether. “Joe has been crucial to the success of our program here at Texas Tech, and his absence will be deeply felt,” said head coach Tim Tadlock. “Joe and his family will always be a part of our baseball community. We wish them all the best as they embark on a new chapter.”
Hughes joined coach Tadlock’s staff from Grayson County College to Oklahoma and was a foundational member of Tadlock’s team. He started as Director of Operations in 2012 and transitioned to assistant coach just before the 2024 season. “I am incredibly grateful to Coach Tadlock, the staff, administration, Red Raider Nation, and especially the players for the past 12 years with Texas Tech baseball,” Hughes remarked.
“My time at Texas Tech has been truly remarkable. I will miss working with the team, but I’m excited to follow the program’s continued success as they strive to win it all in Omaha.” During his tenure with the Red Raiders, Hughes experienced four College World Series appearances, including the program’s inaugural one in 2014. He also witnessed the team secure three consecutive Big 12 titles from 2016 to 2018.
