South Carolina secured a verbal commitment from Keenan Britt on Saturday, outpacing Auburn and other Southeastern Conference schools. Britt, a junior linebacker from Oxford High in Alabama, chose the Gamecocks over Auburn, where his brother KJ played from 2017-20 and is currently a linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. KJ’s tenure at Auburn included three unofficial visits by Keenan.
Britt’s commitment marks the third addition to South Carolina’s Class of 2026, joining South Pointe’s Anthony Baxter and linebacker Rodney Colton from Georgia. USC extended an offer to Britt early last month, leading to a campus visit in late July.
While Oregon, Mississippi, and Arkansas were also in the running, Britt had a prior connection with USC’s new director of player personnel and recruiting, Darren Uscher, from his time at Oregon. During his visit, Britt met with USC head coach Shane Beamer and defensive coordinator Clayton White, among others.
“I toured the entire campus, and I think it’s fantastic,” Britt told Phil Kornblut. “Coach Beamer and Coach White and I had extensive discussions about football and how I would fit into their defensive scheme. We talked a lot about the game. I also met Robby Ashford, safety Vicari Swain, and Debo Williams, among others.”
The 247Sports Composite ranks the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Britt as the 25th-best linebacker nationally for his class and the 13th-best prospect from Alabama. As a sophomore, he recorded 107 tackles, eight sacks, 20 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles, despite missing two games.
