South Carolina basketball target Lauren Jacobs of Heathwood Hall Episcopal school revealed a commitment to the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.
South Carolina basketball coach Dawn Staley had an eventful Saturday. She was featured as the celebrity guest picker on College GameDay, where she supported Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team as they faced the LSU Tigers. Additionally, Staley and her team were recognized during halftime for their undefeated season and National Championship victory last year.
While Staley was making headlines on national television, a 4-star basketball recruit, Lauren Jacobs, announced her college commitment. Jacobs, a Columbia native from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, decided to join Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the Ole Miss Rebels, following a recent visit to Oxford.
Although Jacobs had received an offer from South Carolina and included them in her list of top schools, she chose to pursue her college career elsewhere. Currently, the Gamecocks have no commitments for the 2025 class. However, with 5 freshmen and sophomores on this year’s roster, and 9 players with multiple years of eligibility remaining, a large recruiting class for 2025 isn’t crucial.
South Carolina remains competitive for several high-profile 2025 recruits, and fans can trust Coach Staley to secure the right players for her team. Several 5-star and 4-star prospects are still considering the Gamecocks.
The 2024-2025 Gamecocks will kick off their season with a neutral-site game against the Michigan Wolverines in Las Vegas on November 4th. They will also participate in a charity exhibition game against the Memphis Tigers at the FedEx Forum in Memphis on October 15th as part of the Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic.
