Breaking: South Carolina football veteran defender signs with new professional team

Former South Carolina football EDGE Jordan Strachan is joining the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Elks.

On Monday, TRI Sports Agency announced that Jordan Strachan, a South Carolina football alumnus and client of the agency, has signed a new professional contract with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Strachan, a former defensive end and outside linebacker for the Gamecocks, briefly joined the NFL this offseason with training camp invitations from the Tennessee Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs, but did not secure a roster spot with either team.

Now with the Elks, Strachan joins one of the CFL’s most storied franchises. Edmonton has historically been one of the league’s most successful teams, with more Grey Cup victories (the CFL’s equivalent of the Super Bowl) than all but the Toronto Argonauts. However, recent years have been challenging for the Elks, and Strachan will be key in helping the team return to its winning ways.

Strachan, who began his college career with four seasons at Georgia State before transferring to South Carolina for his final three years, brings valuable length and athleticism to Edmonton’s EDGE position. He is also entering his second year post-ACL reconstruction from 2022, a period when many players fully recover from such injuries.

During his tenure at South Carolina, Strachan recorded 52 tackles, 8 sacks, and 16 tackles for loss. He also forced 2 fumbles (both from strip sacks), batted down 3 passes, and intercepted 1 pass. His standout performance came in his second-to-last game at Williams-Brice Stadium, where he was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his 2-sack game against the Kentucky Wildcats, including a crucial strip sack that led to a game-sealing turnover recovered by teammate Tonka Hemingway.
