Breaking: Another Former South Carolina Basketball Star Lands A Professional Opportunity

South Carolina basketball alum Laeticia Amihere will play with the Perth Lynx of the Australian WNBL this fall.

On Tuesday, it was announced that former South Carolina basketball forward Laeticia Amihere will join the Perth Lynx in the Australian WNBL this fall and winter after the WNBA season concludes.

The WNBL has already begun its 2024-2025 season, with preseason starting last week. However, the league’s official games will not commence until the first week of November. Amihere’s current team, the Atlanta Dream, is still vying for a spot in the WNBA playoffs. If they qualify, Amihere will join the Lynx only after the playoffs end; the Dream’s last regular-season game is scheduled for later this week.

Amihere, in her second professional year with the Atlanta Dream, was a standout 5-star recruit who enrolled early at South Carolina to rehabilitate an injury, eventually playing four seasons under coach Dawn Staley.

Last offseason, she participated in the short-term league Athletes Unlimited. It remains uncertain if she plans to return to AU, as the WNBL season’s conclusion slightly overlaps with AU’s anticipated start.

During her time at South Carolina, Amihere showcased her versatility, playing multiple positions, though she excelled as a power forward who created mismatches. Her combination of size, length, and athleticism allowed her to outpace smaller forwards and challenge traditional bigs. She will bring this adaptability to Perth.

At South Carolina, Amihere was recognized as one of the top bench players in the nation and is among the best shot-blockers in USC history, despite her role.
