Breaking: Baltimore Orioles reveals another positive career ending injury of their major contender.

The Baltimore Orioles have struggled recently, losing nine of their last 13 games as the regular season comes to an end. Fortunately, they may soon receive some much-needed help for the postseason.

All-Star infielder Jordan Westburg, who fractured his hand after being hit by a pitch on July 31 against the Toronto Blue Jays, made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. He played all nine innings at second base, going 1-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk, and a run scored.

After Wednesday’s loss to the San Francisco Giants, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde discussed Westburg and fellow infielder Ramón Urias’ rehab assignments, as reported by Roch Kubatko of MASN.

“[Westburg] hasn’t played in a while, and Ramón has been out even less,” Hyde noted. “It’s about getting at-bats for them. But I’m encouraged that they’re getting back out there.”

With the Triple-A season ending on September 22, Westburg will look to maximize his at-bats. If he isn’t ready to return to the Major Leagues by then, the Orioles will likely have him participate in simulated games to prepare for the postseason.

Due to injuries in the infield, the Orioles have relied on younger prospects like 20-year-old Jackson Holliday and 22-year-old Coby Mayo to fill the gaps.
