Rutgers picked up their first commit for 2025 this week , forward Gevonte Ware has verbally committed to the program.
Ware is a 6’9″ forward from North Carolina, regarded as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports. He attracted interest from numerous power conference schools and mid-major programs, recently visiting Rutgers, Duquesne, and Wake Forest. Rutgers extended an offer in July, and Ware made an official visit just over two weeks ago.
As the first 2025 commit, Ware was recruited by assistant coach Marlon “Smoke” Williamson, who was connected to Ware through a mutual friend in AAU basketball. Ware is a tough, physical player who has also played football as a fullback and defensive end.
“Football was my first sport, and I enjoy the physicality,” Ware said. “Sports involve physical contact, which adds competitiveness. The stronger person wins.”
Rutgers plans to integrate Ware into a frontcourt that has seen increased recruiting focus recently.
