The injury news from Brent Pry Wednesday had mixed results as they get ready to go to Stanford this weekend.
The Virginia Tech football team is getting ready to head West to California for their first meeting with Stanford on Saturday as ACC foes. They have met one other time in the Orange Bowl 13 years ago. The Hokies will travel to play the Cardinal with some good and some not so great injury news.
Wednesday after practice, head coach Brent Pry gave some injury updates on some of his key players on the offensive side of the ball, which would be huge additions if both players could find their way into the lineup. Center Braelin Moore was injured early in last Friday’s game at Miami, which forced some shuffling along the line, which included Kaden Moore.
On Wednesday, Pry announced that Braelin Moore participated fully in practice, which bodes well for the Hokies as they prepare to face Stanford’s formidable defensive line. If Moore plays, it would allow the Hokies to return to their usual positions on the line. However, Pry also mentioned that Montavious Cunningham could see some playing time.
Regarding wide receiver Ali Jennings, Pry’s update was less optimistic. “I wish progress was faster, but he’s working hard, and I think it will be a game-time decision again,” he said.
Jennings was expected to be a crucial part of the offense this season, but after a significant touchdown against Vanderbilt, his health has once again become a concern, reminiscent of last season when his campaign ended early in Week 2 against Purdue.
Pry also highlighted that Alabama transfer Khurtiss Perry is moving up the depth chart at defensive tackle following Kemari Copeland’s announcement on Tuesday that his season is over due to an injury sustained two weeks ago against Rutgers. Pry mentioned they are also considering freshman Emmett Laws for the position.
