Travis Kelce has expressed concern over teammate Rashee Rice’s leg injury, calling it a “huge dagger” for him. The Kansas City Chiefs are striving for an impressive “Three-peat” after securing four early-season wins, but Rice’s injury is a significant setback.
In their latest victory against the Los Angeles Chargers, Rice’s injury cast a shadow over the win. The 24-year-old was carted off the field after an unexpected collision with teammate Patrick Mahomes, leaving him in visible pain.
Kelce, fully aware of Rice’s importance to the team, voiced his concern during the “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce. Reflecting on the upcoming challenges, he emphasized Rice’s key role, stating: “Offensively, we need to get things going, and it’s definitely not going to be easier with Rashee (Rice) going down during the game.”
He added, “I loved how that guy was playing football, the way he attacked every single day in practice. You can’t help but root for the players who do things the right way, and Rashee was doing just that. Seeing him go down was a huge blow for me.”
“Besides that, we found a way to score late, really pounding the ball. Our offensive line is our greatest asset at the moment; those guys up front are […] creating opportunities, along with the tight ends like Noah Gray and my guy J (Jared) Wiley stepping in, the wide receivers doing their part, and the running game.”
“You have to find a way to win games, and sometimes it comes down to those small things that don’t always get recognized. Wide receivers stepping in to block safeties for an extra four or five yards, and running backs giving their all to gain those extra two or three yards.”
In the weeks ahead, the Chiefs are set to compete against the San Francisco 49ers, followed by matchups with the Las Vegas Raiders, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Denver Broncos. The severity of Rice’s injury has not been revealed, but he will be sidelined for all of those games.
