South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer is gearing up for a significant recruiting day on Saturday, coinciding with an important SEC matchup against Ole Miss at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Things started off positively for him on Friday when receiver Jordon Gidron (6-2, 175) from Ridge View High School announced his commitment to the Gamecocks. Additionally, Gidron revealed his intention to reclassify from the 2026 class to the 2025 class.
Previously regarded as one of the top prospects in the state for 2026, Gidron now joins fellow wide receiver Donovan Murph from Irmo, who also plans to reclassify to graduate a year early.
This move allows the players to start their college careers next season and participate sooner in the school’s NIL payment programs.
Gidron had narrowed his options down to a top twelve that included USC, Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, Miami, Duke, North Carolina, Florida State, N.C. State, and LSU.
He quickly became a key target for Gamecock receivers coach Mike Furrey after he joined the staff, and they developed a strong connection. USC first offered Gidron in December, and Furrey followed up with another offer in March.
“Coach Furrey seems like a great coach. He shares his NFL experience and the people he’s worked with, and how he can help develop players,” Gidron mentioned earlier this year. “He genuinely wants what’s best for me, so he comes across as a really good person, and I feel comfortable with him.”
Gidron has made several game and recruiting visits to USC and plans to be in the stands on Saturday. His commitment brings the total to 20 for the Gamecocks’ 2025 class, including their fourth wide receiver.
Last season, Gidron recorded 45 receptions for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns. According to MaxPreps stats, he has 17 catches for 121 yards in three games this season.
