Braves Bold contract projection could render the veteran himself unexpectedly affordable for the Braves.

If these contract projections hold up, then the Atlanta Braves can actually afford to pay Max Fried.

The Atlanta Braves might actually be able to afford Max Fried after all, and in reality, they always could. The team generates substantial revenue thanks to its national fan base and the profitable venue, The Battery, adjacent to Truist Park. Since becoming a publicly traded company after separating from Liberty Media, the Braves can consistently raise capital, much like the Green Bay Packers.

I discussed Fried in a recent article. If the Braves manage to re-sign him, it could mean losing roster spots for five players from last year’s team. However, it’s likely that none of them would return anyway, as they are either aging or were late-season acquisitions. Interestingly, Fried’s projected contract isn’t as hefty as one might think.

Alex Lord of Sports Talk ATL provided insights on the projected contract numbers for Fried. At around $22.7 million per year, according to Spotrac, a potential six-year deal could total $136 million. While the focus may be on contract length rather than average annual value, we know how Alex Anthopoulos approaches these situations. Given Fried’s age, he is likely to depart.

The pressing question is how Anthopoulos will utilize Liberty Media’s financial resources if Fried does leave.

From a starting rotation perspective, the Braves could still be in a strong position if Fried leaves and Charlie Morton retires. All-Stars Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez are under contract, along with Spencer Schwellenbach. With Spencer Strider set to return, the team is looking good. Additionally, Austin Riley will be back at the start of the season, and Ronald Acuña Jr. is expected to return soon after.
