Josh Allen is confirmed to play in Week 6.
After a minor injury scare in Week 5, it seems that Josh Allen will be fully healthy for the Buffalo Bills in Week 6. Although he returned to the game against the Houston Texans after hitting his head on the field, he entered concussion protocol afterward.
As the Bills prepare for their Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets, they have cleared Allen from concussion protocol. The NFL and NFL Players Association conducted a joint review of his evaluation and confirmed his clearance, according to Jordan Schultz.
Even with medical clearance, Allen will need to stay alert during the Monday Night Football game, especially since the Jets boast one of the top defenses in 2024. They rank fourth in the league with 18 sacks over five games, led by second-year defensive end Will McDonald IV, who has six.
In addition to their strong pass rush, the Jets’ secondary is allowing the second-fewest passing yards per game, behind only the Tennessee Titans, with opponents averaging just 161 yards.
Despite being regarded as one of the league’s top quarterbacks, Allen has not surpassed 300 passing yards in any game this season and has been held under 200 yards three times.
Entering the Week 6 matchup with a 3-2 record, the Bills are clinging to first place in the AFC East but are on a two-game losing streak, including one of the most significant late-game collapses of the year in Week 5.
While the positive update on Allen is encouraging, the Bills are still waiting for updates on Khalil Shakir, James Cook, Mack Hollins, and Curtis Samuel. Defensively, tackle Ed Oliver and cornerback Taron Johnson are questionable, but the team is dealing with fewer injuries than many others in the league.
Shakir’s absence in Week 5 was noticeable, as the passing game struggled without him as the top receiver. Allen completed only nine of 30 passes, totaling just 131 yards—his lowest of the season.
In Week 6, the Bills are likely to face a motivated Jets team, which will be playing its first game after the firing of former head coach Robert Saleh. Although Saleh left with a losing record, he was well-respected by his players and had fostered a competitive culture with a strong defense that had been lacking for years prior to his arrival.
