In Week 7, the Kansas City Chiefs will go on the road to compete against the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl.
The Chiefs emerged victorious in that game with a score of 25-22 in overtime, and they are now entering this matchup undefeated, aiming to extend their record to 6-0.
For San Francisco, this matchup is more significant than a typical regular-season game, as they have fallen to Kansas City in their last two Super Bowl appearances (2020 and 2024).
49ers defensive end Nick Bosa recognized the added motivation, stating that they are “definitely trying to get the monkey off our back.”
However, San Francisco will be missing one of the league’s top playmakers. On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that star running back Christian McCaffrey is not anticipated to participate.
McCaffrey has not played this season because of Achilles tendinitis in both legs, leading to uncertainty regarding his return.
Despite managing the injury since training camp, McCaffrey initially expected to be on the field for the season opener.
He was listed as inactive in Week 1 and has yet to play. Over his eight seasons in the NFL, McCaffrey has established himself as one of the top running backs in the league, earning the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award last year.

Throughout his career, McCaffrey has amassed 6,185 rushing yards and 52 rushing touchdowns. He has also been a significant contributor in the passing game, recording 4,320 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns.
In Week 6, the 49ers secured a 36-22 victory against the Seattle Seahawks on “Thursday Night Football,” while the Chiefs had a bye week.
The matchup between Kansas City and San Francisco is scheduled to be broadcast on Fox on October 20 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
