Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung’s journey to maintaining his health has faced another obstacle. According to Jeff Wilson of AllDLLs.com, the highly regarded Jung had to undergo another wrist surgery, which represents yet another setback in his efforts to achieve a healthy and consistent season in 2025. Following a strong start to his career, Jung has struggled with ongoing wrist issues, raising doubts about his durability and performance on the field. This latest surgery is intended to address these persistent problems, but it is unclear when he will be able to return.
Jung, 26, had a standout 2023 season with the Rangers, despite facing injury challenges. He recorded 23 home runs and achieved a .266/.315/.467 batting line over 122 games. However, a wrist fracture restricted his playing time, causing him to miss the majority of the season’s first four months. Although he returned in late July, he experienced recurring discomfort that led to another stint on the injured list in late September. During his final 46 games, Jung’s performance declined to .264/.298/.421. Following his most recent wrist surgery, the expectation is that he will have a normal offseason after undergoing 3-4 weeks of rehabilitation.
“After consulting with several medical professionals about his ongoing wrist issue, we collectively determined that Josh should proceed with the release surgery now to ensure he is fully prepared for spring training,” said Chris Young, the Rangers’ president of baseball operations, in a statement on Friday.
