FSU football experienced a setback on Thursday night when Daylan McCutcheon, a blue-chip commitment for 2025, switched his commitment to Texas. However, just under two hours later, the Seminoles secured a commitment from another blue-chip recruit, offensive lineman Mario Nash Jr. for 2025.
The Mississippi native is a former commitment to Mississippi State who de-committed after visiting the Seminoles last week for an official visit during the Clemson game. Nash is ranked as the No. 279 player overall, No. 14 among interior offensive linemen, and No. 10 in Mississippi. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 280 pounds, he becomes the third offensive lineman in the 2025 class, joining blue-chip recruits Solomon Thomas and Peyton Joseph.
Nash also took official visits to Clemson, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and LSU, and there were predictions favoring Ole Miss before his commitment to FSU. It will be interesting to see if he remains committed if FSU struggles to win games in 2024.
The question remains whether this offensive line recruitment will be enough to retain Alex Atkins after the 2024 season. The offensive line has been performing poorly on a national scale, with FSU lacking a running game, and Atkins has not developed a single offensive lineman in the past four years.
The next six games will likely be crucial for determining Atkins’ future, as FSU needs significant improvements. The team is averaging just 14.8 points per game and 4.52 yards per play, with a mere 2.16 yards per carry—far the lowest during the Mike Norvell era.
With this latest addition, FSU now has 11 commitments, boosting its ranking from No. 52 to No. 37 nationally.
