Here’s who the Braves could add in 2025 that could have the same impact Reynaldo Lopez did.
The Atlanta Braves need to focus on their starting rotation this offseason. With Max Fried sidelined, they have several options to fill his role if they’re willing to invest. However, finding a pitcher like Renaldo Lopez may prove challenging.
Lopez was acquired early in free agency and made a significant impact on the rotation this season, achieving an 8-5 record with 148 strikeouts and a 1.99 ERA. His performance will be crucial for the Braves as they aim to secure another playoff spot next season.
Finding another player—whether a pitcher or a hitter—who can contribute immediately like Lopez won’t be easy. Nevertheless, the Braves must act quickly after a disappointing early winter. Here are some potential additions for the Braves this offseason that could match Lopez’s impact.

3. SP Jack Flaherty
This year’s free agent class for pitchers is solid, with Max Fried and Corbin Burnes leading the group. One potential addition for the Braves could be Jack Flaherty. After being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers from Detroit, Flaherty had a strong season, posting a 6-2 record in 10 starts and recording 61 strikeouts.
With Clayton Kershaw battling injuries throughout the season and Shohei Ohtani unable to showcase his two-way talent due to his own injury, Flaherty proved to be a valuable addition for the Dodgers. The Braves should target one of the top pitchers in free agency, and Flaherty would be a strong candidate.
2. SS Paul DeJong
Paul DeJong may not be a long-term answer, but he could be an answer for the Braves’ lack of offensive production from the shortstops this season. DeJong would be a fairly cheap option with an upside that could provide an offensive spark.
DeJong hit a notch above Orlando Arcia last season with a .228 batting average compared to Arcia’s .218. It’s not the sexiest addition, but it could be a cheap alternative to get some offensive production.
1. UTIL Kiké Hernandez
Kiké Hernandez may be nearing the end of his career, but this postseason has demonstrated that he can still deliver solid offensive performance, which the Braves urgently need.
During this season with the Dodgers, Hernandez posted a .227 batting average with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. One of his advantages is his versatility; he can play both outfield and middle infield. If Ronald Acuña Jr. faces health issues again, Hernandez could serve as a reliable fill-in, while also covering for any other injuries or gaps in the lineup.
