The Green Bay Packers have signed offensive tackle Spencer Rolland to their practice squad. Rolland, a former undrafted free agent who entered the league with the Minnesota Vikings this past May, has an impressive background.
A graduate of Apple Valley High School, Rolland earned recognition as a standout athlete and was honored with the TRIA Prep Salute. He initially played at Harvard before transferring to the University of North Carolina, where he started 26 games at right tackle over the last two years.
Rolland was recognized for his academic achievements as a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, known as the Academic Heisman, and received honorable mention All-ACC honors.
During his time at Harvard, he started 20 games and contributed to the Ivy League’s second-highest scoring offense, earning First Team All-Ivy League recognition. After transferring to North Carolina, he helped anchor the offensive line and played a key role as Drake Maye’s right tackle.
Expected to graduate in the spring with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in astrophysics, Rolland has a strong academic record. He expressed his gratitude upon committing to UNC, stating, “I am blessed and honored to announce my commitment to play football at the University of North Carolina!”
Rolland was waived by the Vikings in August after a challenging preseason, where he received low grades, including a 38.2 in minimum snaps. He played 60 snaps at left guard, allowing one pressure and committing two penalties. The Packers will look to develop his potential as they bolster their offensive line depth.
