During their bye week, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff focused on recruiting, taking a break after a challenging start to the 2024 season with a 3-3 record.
While on the road, they encountered running back Brendon Haygood in Texas. Pry extended an offer to Haygood, indicating that Virginia Tech is eager to persuade the Class of 2025 running back to reconsider his commitment made last month.
Virginia Tech trying to flip RB Brendon Haygood
On September 22, Brendon Haygood, a running back from Sachse, Texas, committed to Boise State. Now, just under a month later, Virginia Tech is trying to entice him to flip his commitment. Currently, the Hokies have a commitment from running back Jeffrey Overton from Quantico, Va., in the Class of 2025.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Haygood, rated as a three-star by 247Sports, attended Virginia Tech’s 42-21 victory over Boston College on Thursday night. It was an exciting visit for him, as he witnessed Bhayshul Tuten break the Virginia Tech single-game rushing record with 266 yards and three rushing touchdowns, plus one touchdown pass.
Despite losing athlete Matthew Outten to Penn State on Labor Day Weekend, Pry’s recruiting efforts for the Class of 2025 have been strong. Overton is a sought-after running back, and now the Hokies are keen to persuade Haygood to reconsider his commitment to Boise State.
Haygood has upcoming visits scheduled for Houston on October 26 and Texas Tech on November 9, so Virginia Tech faces competition in their efforts to secure a flip from the Broncos.
