Jared Brown was coming into form for the Gamecocks before getting hit with multiple injuries, but South Carolina could get him back at just the right time.
After several wide receivers left via the transfer portal following the 2023 season, the Gamecocks have been relying on a young receiver group in the 2024 season. One receiver showed significant potential early on, but unfortunately, he faced consecutive injuries that sidelined him for nearly five games.
Junior wide receiver Jared Brown was expected to be one of South Carolina’s standout players this season, but he has only recorded eight catches for 103 yards and no touchdowns, averaging 12.9 yards per reception. The Coastal Carolina transfer played in games against Old Dominion and Kentucky before suffering a lower-body injury during the match against LSU. He returned to play against Ole Miss but then sustained a shoulder injury that kept him out of the Alabama and Oklahoma games.
As the Gamecocks approach their second bye week, they are in better shape than they were before the first one. Head coach Shane Beamer provided an optimistic update about Brown’s recovery.
After missing two games due to the shoulder injury sustained against Ole Miss, the bye week has allowed him to avoid missing a third. Brown is on track to return for the homecoming game against Texas A&M.
Fortunately, the Gamecocks emerged from the Oklahoma game with minimal injuries and are entering the second bye week relatively healthy. Beamer is also hopeful about the return of defensive tackle DeAndre Jules for the Texas A&M game, which would bolster South Carolina’s already strong defense.
Despite a standout performance against Alabama, including a crucial interception, cornerback O’Donnell Fortune is dealing with a lingering injury that flared up again during the Oklahoma game. The bye week should give him additional time to recover, with hopes of him being ready to play against the Aggies for homecoming.
