Four trades the Buffalo Bills should make before the NFL trade deadline

The Buffalo Bills are currently 5-2, holding a strong three-game lead in the AFC East. However, their sights are set on the Super Bowl, and to compete with powerhouses like the Kansas City Chiefs, they need to continue bolstering their roster. Following their acquisition of Amari Cooper, here’s a trade suggestion for them:

Here are a few more trade targets the Buffalo Bills could pursue:

**S Grant Delpit, Cleveland Browns**

Grant Delpit - Stats & Player Share

The Bills could use reinforcements in their secondary. While Damar Hamlin’s story is inspiring, he isn’t a starting-caliber safety for a contending team. Taylor Rapp is a solid option but more suited as a No. 2 or No. 3 safety rather than a primary starter. Delpit, still performing at a high level, is playing for a struggling Browns team that might look to cut costs. With a base salary that doesn’t exceed $1.2 million from 2024 to 2026, he would be an affordable and immediate upgrade. The Bills should reach out to Andrew Berry again—thank him for Cooper—and see if he’s open to trading Delpit for additional draft picks.

**S Tyrann Mathieu, New Orleans Saints**

If the Bills can’t land Grant Delpit, they should consider reaching out to Mickey Loomis about Tyrann Mathieu. At 32, Mathieu may not be the three-time All-Pro he once was, but he’s still playing strong football. With two interceptions this season, his instincts in coverage and run support remain sharp, making him a valuable addition to the secondary.

**EDGE Travon Walker, Jacksonville Jaguars**

The former No. 1 overall pick is coming off a strong 10-sack season and is on track for 14.5 sacks in 2024. However, the Jaguars are facing a rebuilding phase and might be willing to part with him. The Bills need to strengthen their edge rush, as Greg Rousseau had a promising start but has since struggled. Walker, still on his rookie contract, could be acquired for a late Day Two or early Day Three draft pick, making him an affordable option.

**WR Diontae Johnson, Carolina Panthers**

After being traded from Pittsburgh to Carolina, Johnson was expected to be a key player for the Panthers. Given Carolina’s struggles, contenders will likely inquire about his availability. Picture the Bills’ offense featuring three receivers: Amari Cooper, Diontae Johnson, and Khalil Shakir. This trio, combined with Dalton Kincaid at tight end and James Cook in the backfield, would create a formidable challenge for opposing defenses, especially with Josh Allen at the helm.

Pursuing these players could significantly enhance the Bills’ chances of making a deep playoff run.
