Breaking: FSU confirms another departure of their top talented player to eager rivals

Florida State’s football team has had a dismal season, currently holding a 1-7 record with defeats against Georgia Tech, Boston College, Memphis, SMU, Clemson, Duke, and Miami. The Seminoles have become a punchline in college football.

Under head coach Mike Norvell, now in his fifth season, the program is in a downward trend. Preseason projections set their win total at 9.5, but they fell short of that after just three games.

The situation is disappointing on many levels, particularly in recruiting, as the coaching staff struggles to attract players with little to offer except the hope of a fresh start in 2025.

Recently, several four-star recruits, including wide receivers Malik Clark and Daylan McCutcheon, defensive end Javion Hilson, and defensive tackle Myron Charles, have de-committed from the program.

Things worsened over the weekend when four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley from Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, also decided to withdraw his commitment.

It’s surprising that CJ Wiley remained committed to Florida State for so long given the team’s recent struggles, especially with the Georgia Bulldogs actively pursuing him. Initially, it was unexpected for him to choose the Seminoles over Georgia.

Wiley visited Texas A&M last weekend, where the Aggies secured a victory against LSU, making them and Georgia key contenders to watch as his recruitment unfolds.

This development means that wide receivers coach Ron Dugans has lost all three top recruits he secured over the summer and now has no commitments (reminiscent of the 2022 cycle). While it’s too early to raise alarms, it raises questions about Dugans’ future with the program after the 2024 season.

Overall, the wide receiver performance this year has been dismal, with the Seminoles’ offense ranking among the worst in college football. On a positive note, four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs, currently committed to UCF, is expected to officially visit Florida State next weekend during their game against North Carolina.
