Breaking: Diamondbacks could be landing another spot for another talented player in trade with Braves

The World Series has concluded, signaling the start of the MLB offseason. The Los Angeles Angels initiated the Hot Stove season with a trade involving the Atlanta Braves. On Friday, several teams made key decisions about contract options, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, who announced their choice regarding Eugenio Suarez.

According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the Diamondbacks are likely to exercise Suarez’s contract option for 2025, securing him at a $15 million salary for next year. They had the option to buy out the veteran infielder for $2 million but opted not to.

Suarez joined Arizona last winter after being traded from the Seattle Mariners. His season with the Diamondbacks was inconsistent, but he ultimately tallied 30 home runs and 101 RBI.

Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suarez went off in the second half

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez (28) greets third base coach Tony Perezchica after hitting a solo home run in the third inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.

Despite a strong push for the postseason following their World Series appearance in 2023, the Diamondbacks fell short, finishing behind the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets in the Wild Card race.

Overall, Suarez had a solid first season with the Diamondbacks, finishing with a 3.8 fWAR over 158 games and achieving over 100 RBI for the first time since 2019. Additionally, 2024 marked his third season with 30 or more home runs in the last four years.

However, statistics can be misleading. Before the MLB All-Star Break, this decision would have seemed unlikely. At that point, Suarez was hitting just .216/.302/.366 and struck out nearly 30% of the time, indicating a challenging first half for the veteran player.
