Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love is expected to play on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, according to multiple reports (Dianna Russini, Tom Pelissero). Love sustained a groin injury in last Sunday’s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and didn’t return for the second half. However, after a reassuring MRI and participating in two limited practices this week, it seems likely he’ll be ready to go, keeping backup Malik Willis on the sidelines for Sunday’s game.
In his second season as a starter, Jordan Love has had a roller-coaster year. He’s posting a solid 7.7 yards per attempt and averaging 2.5 passing touchdowns per game, but he also tops the league with nine interceptions, despite appearing in only six of the eight games.
However, in his most recent matchup with the Lions, Love delivered an impressive performance. On Thanksgiving in Detroit, he completed 22 of 32 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns.
“He does an excellent job of keeping his eyes downfield and giving his receivers opportunities to make plays,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said this week. “He’s really grown and elevated his game since last year. I know he’s had a few interceptions, but there are other aspects of his game as a quarterback that have really improved. He’s a top-notch guy.”
Though Love is set to play, the Packers have other key players on their injury report who may not be as fortunate. Safety Evan Williams is ruled out, center Josh Myers is doubtful, and both running back Josh Jacobs and cornerback Jaire Alexander are listed as questionable.
