South Carolina loses a Class of 2025 recruit, their only tight end recruit in that class.
South Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class has taken a hit just days before their most significant game of the season, with three-star tight end Preston Douglas announcing his decision to flip his commitment from the Gamecocks to NC State. Douglas had originally committed to South Carolina in June.
While this isn’t a major blow to the class—already boasting 20 commits, including five wide receivers—it does mean that the Gamecocks currently have no tight-end commitments for that class.
The 6-foot-3 Florida native plays both ways at the Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, where he has recorded 16 receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 tackles and three sacks on defense during his senior year.
On a positive note for South Carolina, they haven’t experienced significant attrition in their recruiting class, with Douglas being just the third player to switch commitments in recent months. He joins four-star cornerback Shamari Earls, who committed to Georgia, and three-star linebacker Jaiden Baker, who chose LSU.
Head coach Shane Beamer was actively recruiting during the bye week, and there’s hope that he might secure a tight end for the 2025 class or flip another commit to the Gamecocks.
As the Gamecocks prepare to face Texas A&M this weekend, they will also be hosting potential recruits for both the 2025 and 2026 classes.
