The New Orleans Saints began the 2024 NFL season strong, winning back-to-back games by significant margins, with veteran quarterback Derek Carr and the offense scoring a total of 91 points.
It appeared that New Orleans had discovered a winning formula during the offseason, and this momentum translated into the regular season, suggesting the offense was primed for a breakout year.
Unfortunately for the Saints, their strong offensive performance over the first two weeks now appears to be an anomaly, as they haven’t won a game since. Heading into Week 9, the team is on a six-game losing streak.
One reason for the offense’s decline has been Carr cooling off and subsequently getting injured, causing him to miss three games and leading to rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler stepping in.
Fortunately for the Saints, Carr is expected to return to the field in Week 9 when they travel to face the struggling division-rival Carolina Panthers, according to NFL on X.
If Carr can return to the level of play he showed in the first two games of the season, New Orleans could rebound and potentially salvage the season, despite being in a difficult situation due to their lengthy losing streak.
Only time will reveal if the Saints can bounce back, but they have a solid opportunity ahead against what many consider the weakest team in the league.
