Breaking: LSU Lands Another Commitment of a Talented Player From a Good Team

The LSU women’s basketball team has secured a verbal commitment from one of the top recruits in the 2025 freshman class. ZaKiyah Johnson, a five-star prospect from Louisville, Kentucky, announced her decision on Sunday, opting for LSU over in-state rivals Kentucky and Louisville. According to 247Sports composite rankings, the 6-foot wing is ranked as the ninth-best recruit in the nation, the top player from Kentucky, and among the three best small forwards in her class.

On September 7, Johnson visited LSU officially, accompanied by two other highly regarded recruits. One of them, Divine Bourrage, a guard from Iowa, has already committed to the Tigers’ 2025 class, while the other, Grace Knox, is from California and is still considering her options.

Johnson is now the third top-25 recruit to commit to LSU’s upcoming freshman class. The first was Bella Hines, a guard from New Mexico, who pledged to the Tigers last April, followed by Divine Bourrage, who committed shortly after her visit in September.

If all three recruits sign with LSU in November, the Tigers will start the 2025-2026 season with one of the nation’s top freshman classes. As of now, LSU is the only program with commitments from two 2025 prospects ranked in the top 10 of 247Sports’ composite rankings.

In 2023, LSU also brought in a highly regarded group, signing ESPN’s top class in the nation. Although two recruits from that class, Angelica Velez from Syracuse and Janae Kent from Texas A&M, have since transferred, Mikaylah Williams and Aalyah Del Rosario, both former top-10 recruits, are returning for their sophomore years.

In 2024, LSU added one freshman, Jada Richard, a guard from Lafayette.

Grace Knox, who is a top-12 recruit, has not yet announced a commitment date and is still considering offers from LSU, Texas, Tennessee, and Southern Cal.

LSU’s 2024-2025 season kicks off at 7 p.m. Monday (SEC Network+) with a home game against Eastern Kentucky.
