Astros Considering Trade Of 2-Time All-Star Pitcher

Another longstanding member of the Houston Astros may be facing an uncertain future with the team.

According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Astros have recently held internal discussions about potentially trading their setup pitcher, Ryan Pressly. Rome notes that the Astros, who are currently around $10 million under the first luxury tax threshold, may be aiming to further reduce their proximity to the tax line.

Pressly, who turns 36 next month, has been with the Astros since 2018. During his time in Houston, he’s earned two All-Star selections, was part of the 2022 World Series team, and was an All-MLB selection that same year. Additionally, Pressly holds the record for the most consecutive scoreless appearances in MLB history, with 40.

The Houston Astros may be contemplating moving on from another key veteran.

Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that the Astros have internally discussed trading setup pitcher Ryan Pressly. According to Rome, the Astros, who are approximately $10 million under the first luxury tax threshold, might be aiming to further reduce their financial obligations.

Pressly, set to turn 36 next month, has been a fixture in Houston since 2018. In that time, he’s earned two All-Star selections, contributed to the 2022 World Series championship team, and was named an All-MLB selection in 2022. Pressly also holds the MLB record for the longest streak of consecutive scoreless appearances, with 40.

It’s worth noting that Pressly has a full no-trade clause in his contract, which includes a vesting option for 2025, meaning he would have to approve any potential trade. However, with the Astros recently missing the ALCS for the first time since 2016 and facing some significant changes, there’s a possibility that Pressly and the team could part ways—a move that would certainly impact the Houston bullpen.
