It’ll be an interesting game of who’s in, who’s out this Sunday
The Buffalo Bills have signed wide receiver Jalen Virgil to a two-year deal, promoting him from their practice squad ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Virgil originally joined the Bills just before the start of the 2024 NFL season, when he was added to the practice squad on August 29.
Virgil has been elevated to the active roster twice already this season, for Weeks 8 and 9 games against the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins, respectively. With this new contract, Virgil is now secured a spot on the 53-man roster for at least three weeks.
When Virgil was first signed in the summer, there was speculation that he could compete for a role as a return specialist. Pre-draft discussions about Virgil highlighted his impressive speed, though his pro day results, including a solid but not exceptional 4.40-second 40-yard dash, did not fully match the hype. For more details on Virgil’s brief NFL career, see our previous article from August.
Along with Virgil’s promotion, the Bills also made a roster move to bring defensive tackle Zion Logue back to the practice squad.
The obvious follow-up question here is what it all means for rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman, who’s dealing with a wrist injury suffered at the end of last weekend’s game against the Dolphins. Short of any concrete news/timeline from the Bills and head coach Sean McDermott, it’s possible (though just speculation on our part) that One Bills Drive is preparing to be without Coleman for multiple weeks.
