Tyrell Shavers made his NFL debut with the Buffalo Bills on October 6. On Sunday, the former Alabama wide receiver will have the opportunity to play again, still in search of his first NFL reception.
The Bills elevated Shavers and wide receiver KJ Hamler from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday, making them eligible for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at noon CST.
The move comes with wide receiver Keon Coleman sidelined for the game due to a wrist injury. Amari Cooper and Curtis Samuel, both listed as questionable, may also miss the game after limited participation in practice. Cooper, a former Alabama All-American, missed last week’s game with a wrist injury, while Samuel is dealing with a pectoral issue.
Shavers was previously elevated from the practice squad for the Bills’ 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans on October 6. In that game, he played 16 offensive snaps and eight special-teams plays but was not targeted by quarterback Josh Allen.
During his three years at Alabama, Shavers had one reception and scored a touchdown on a blocked punt. After redshirting in 2017, he played in 28 games in 2018 and 2019 for the Crimson Tide.
Shavers transferred to Mississippi State in 2020, where he caught nine passes, and then moved to San Diego State for two seasons. In 2022, he totaled 38 receptions for 643 yards and three touchdowns for the Aztecs. He signed with the Bills as a rookie free agent.
Shavers spent the 2023 NFL season on Buffalo’s practice squad without seeing regular-season action, and he has returned to that role in 2024.
