The Atlanta Braves are focused on coming back in 2025 with a fully healthy and complete rotation, aiming for a deep playoff run.
However, a series of injuries throughout the season derailed their hopes of securing a fifth World Series title, making that goal increasingly out of reach.
With starting pitcher Max Fried poised to become a highly coveted free agent, the Braves may need to seek out another top-tier starter to pair with ace Chris Sale at the front of their rotation next season.
According to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Jack Flaherty is expected to sign a three-year, $60 million contract with an opt-out clause after 2026, with the Braves emerging as the likely team to land him.
Jack Flaherty has put together a strong career with a 55-41 record, 3.63 ERA, 942 strikeouts to 292 walks, a .224 batting average against, and a 1.18 WHIP over eight seasons. He has played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Flaherty’s market value would likely be higher than the $60 million prediction if it weren’t for his injury concerns, particularly his ongoing back issues.
The 29-year-old had a standout 2024 season, going 13-7 with a 3.17 ERA, a 194-to-38 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a .223 batting average against, and a 1.07 WHIP while pitching for the Tigers and Dodgers.
If Flaherty’s back problems don’t continue into next season, he could be a major asset to the Braves’ rotation. Adding the 2024 World Series champion would provide a reliable replacement for Max Fried if he is not re-signed this winter.
