The Los Angeles Angels kept up their busy offseason by announcing a deal with veteran catcher Travis d’Arnaud on Tuesday. While the team did not disclose the financial terms, reports suggest that d’Arnaud will earn $12 million over the two years of his contract. The one-time All-Star became a free agent after the Atlanta Braves declined his $8 million option for 2025.
“Travis really stood out to us — not only because he can perform at a high level, but his character is exceptional,” Angels general manager Perry Minasian said after the move was made official. “He’s a winner. He’s been part of many successful teams and knows what it takes to be part of a winning culture.”
d’Arnaud is coming off a season in which he played 99 games for the Braves, batting .238 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs. He is expected to serve as a backup and mentor to the Angels’ highly regarded catcher, Logan O’Hoppe.
“I think it will be great for Logan, who’s coming into his own, to have someone like Travis by his side,” Minasian added. “Having a veteran like d’Arnaud will really help Logan’s development moving forward.”
d’Arnaud spent the last five seasons with the Braves, enjoying the best stretch of his career. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2020, became a World Series champion in 2021, and earned his first and only All-Star selection in 2022. Before joining the Braves, he also played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Tampa Bay Rays.
