Reliever Justin Wilson And Red Sox Agree To $2.25 Million, One-Year Contract

BOSTON — Left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a one-year contract worth $2.25 million, finalized on Thursday.

Wilson has the potential to earn up to $750,000 in additional performance bonuses based on games pitched, receiving $150,000 each for reaching 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 appearances.

The Red Sox also announced the hiring of Chris Holt as their new bullpen coach.

The 37-year-old reliever Justin Wilson posted a 1-5 record with a 5.59 ERA over 46 2/3 innings in 60 games for Cincinnati this past season, recording 51 strikeouts and 13 walks. He earned a base salary of $1.5 million, along with $1 million in performance bonuses for reaching 60 appearances.

In 2022, Wilson was limited to just five games due to an elbow injury that led to Tommy John surgery. Planning to debut for Milwaukee in 2023 on July 28, he suffered a season-ending lat injury while warming up in the bullpen.

Wilson, a 12-year MLB veteran, has a career record of 34-29 with a 3.61 ERA and 20 saves. He has played for Pittsburgh (2012-14), the New York Yankees (2015, 2021), Detroit (2016-17), the Chicago Cubs (2017-18), the New York Mets (2019-20), and Cincinnati (2021-22, 2024).

Chris Holt, 45, previously served as Baltimore’s pitching coach from 2021 to 2023 and was the Orioles’ director of pitching from 2020 to 2024. Before that, he coached in the Houston Astros’ minor league system from 2014-17 and was assistant pitching coordinator in 2018.
