Virginia Tech Catch Huge Break with The Return Home Of Their Key Man

This one had me thinking quite a bit. Under a new regime, would the current staff even entertain a new addition?

As you can probably guess, I pay close attention to what’s happening on “Hokies Twitter.” Most of it is pretty standard stuff—“Fire Brent Pry,” “Bring back Beamer,” “Nike Pro Combat Black was the best,” you know, the usual online chatter. But every now and then, the X platform drops a small tidbit of useful info. It’s rare, but when it happens, I tend to overthink it. So, when I came across this particular post on X, I almost spit out my drink.
Jerod Evans was an absolute force for the new fans in the crowd. He led the Hokies to the ACC Championship game in 2016, which was Justin Fuente’s second-to-last year as head coach. It turned out to be Evans’ only season in Blacksburg, as he left Virginia Tech with one year of eligibility still remaining.
That always made me curious—why did he leave? Why walk away from a program to pursue a spot as a mid- to low-round NFL quarterback, at best? He ended up signing as an undrafted free agent with the Eagles but never managed to secure a permanent role. Despite that, he had a solid combination of size, speed, and a strong arm. A prime example of his talent is this incredible run:

When you read the initial tweet, I wasn’t sure who Evans was talking about. Evans started his collegiate career at the Air Force Academy. After tearing his ACL, he ended up at Trinity Valley Community College. All he did there was shatter more records than Michael Jackson.

When he arrived at Virginia Tech, I was really excited. The 2016 season was thrilling for the Hokies—new coach, new franchise quarterback, and it felt like the sky was the limit. He pushed the Hokies to the edge, even putting Clemson on the ropes for much of the championship game. Honestly, I’m more interested in why he left in the first place than why he wants to return.

Evans was a quarterback you could easily put your faith in. He looked the part. He took over games at times, and more importantly, he was a leader. Clearly X Hokie fans want him back in some fashion. It didn’t take me long to see this important reply:
