AJ Brand remains committed to the Hokies despite an official visit to South Carolina.
As College Football’s Early Signing Day for the Class of 2025 approaches in just a couple of weeks, the flip action is starting to pick up. Many recruits who are committed to one school are still taking official visits to others, leading to some shifting allegiances as the signing period nears.
Virginia Tech, for instance, hosted several recruits who were committed to other programs during their Nov. 9 game against Clemson, a 24-14 loss. The Hokies have already experienced a flip of their own, as Matthew Outten decommitted in early September and ultimately pledged to Penn State, where he will be coached by James Franklin—Brent Pry’s former boss, who Pry worked under as defensive coordinator before taking over at Virginia Tech.
The Hokies have two quarterbacks committed in the Class of 2025: Kelden Ryan from DeSoto, Texas, and AJ Brand from Columbia, S.C. Brand, who committed to Virginia Tech in June, chose the Hokies over his hometown South Carolina Gamecocks. With Signing Day just weeks away, Brand remains committed to head coach Brent Pry and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, despite the continued recruiting pressure.
AJ Brand remains committed to Virginia Tech
Brand, a three-star according to 247Sports, took an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend to see the Gamecocks rally to stun Missouri in the final seconds, according to Anna Adams of 247Sports. Adams spoke to Brand who reiterated that he is still committed to the Hokies.
“Lock in with VT,” AJ Brand told Adams, confirming his commitment to Virginia Tech.
This is positive news for head coach Brent Pry, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, and the Hokies, but in today’s recruiting landscape, it’s always wise to stay cautious. Brand is a talented quarterback who had a standout senior season at Irmo High School, and there’s a lot to be excited about regarding his future in Blacksburg.
With Recruiting Day approaching quickly, things are bound to intensify, and Brand is definitely a player to watch. He’s scheduled to return to Lane Stadium on Nov. 30 for the Commonwealth Cup against Virginia, which could provide another opportunity to evaluate his commitment.
