Fitter and Faster is honored to celebrate these athletes and everyone who has supported them along the way.
Breaststroker Alexis Dalton has committed to swim for the South Carolina Gamecocks beginning in the fall of 2025. A member of Dynamo Swim Club from Atlanta, Georgia, Dalton is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and competes for Lovett High School during the swim season.
“I am beyond grateful to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of South Carolina! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me through this process and helping me get to where I am today. I also want to express my gratitude to the amazing coaching staff at South Carolina for being so welcoming and giving me this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait for what’s ahead! GO GAMECOCKS!! 🤙🤙🖤♥️”
Dalton is a Winter Juniors qualifier, having met the 100 breaststroke cut again this past summer at the 2024 Speedo Summer Championships in July. There, she improved her long-course meters 100 breaststroke time twice, first recording 1:12.50 in prelims, then 1:11.93 in finals.
Her short-course yards bests come from the Speedo Southern Premier in March 2023, where she placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.64 and also swam a 2:21.39 in the 200 breaststroke prelims, ultimately finishing 15th.
Dalton has also had a strong showing during the high school season. Since the 200 breaststroke isn’t offered in high school competition, she switches to the 100 freestyle as her second event. At the 2024 GHSA 1-5A State Championships, she earned third place in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. The previous year, she finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 100 freestyle.
Last season, Lien Yu, now a sophomore, was South Carolina’s top breaststroker with a time of 1:01.69. However, the team’s depth in the breaststroke group has been affected by graduations, though swimmers like Delaney Walker have stepped up. Dalton’s addition will provide a valuable boost to the group’s depth. To make an impact at the SEC Championships, she will need to continue to improve her times, especially as the competition for finals spots has become even tougher with Texas joining the conference.
The South Carolina women’s team had a strong 2023-24 season, finishing seventh at the 2024 SEC Championships, their highest placement since 2011. The Gamecocks have bolstered their class of 2029 with Dalton, Kesa Taivassalo, Tori Abruzzo, and Sofia Luper, all of whom signed their commitments last week.
