The Buffalo Bills made a strong move at last season’s trade deadline by acquiring veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas, who quickly became a key player in their defense. This season, Douglas has remained a vital part of the secondary, starting all 11 games and contributing 44 tackles, five passes defensed, and solid leadership.
However, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine suggests that the Bills may want to start considering a long-term solution at cornerback, particularly with Douglas set to hit free agency soon.
Ballentine recommends targeting Kristian Fulton, a 26-year-old cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers, as a potential replacement. Fulton, who has had a rebound year after struggling with the Tennessee Titans, could offer the Bills a younger, more sustainable option in their secondary. This season, Fulton has appeared in eight games, starting seven, and recorded 18 tackles, one interception, and six passes defensed.
Despite this, the Bills may decide to re-sign Douglas, given his strong performances, including a crucial role in the team’s 30-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on November 17. In that game, both Douglas and cornerback Christian Benford played an essential part in locking down the Chiefs’ wide receivers, which pressured quarterback Patrick Mahomes and helped slow down their offense.
Additionally, the Bills are expecting a defensive boost following the bye week, with Pro Bowl linebacker Matt Milano nearing a return from a torn pectoral muscle suffered in training camp. Milano’s return, along with the possibility of rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter coming back from injured reserve, could further strengthen the team’s defense as they move through the latter part of the season.
