The news about Brock Purdy continues to deteriorate.
Initially, the 49ers announced he would miss Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Now, there’s a possibility he could also be unavailable for next Sunday’s matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Here’s what Kyle Shanahan had to say about Brock Purdy’s shoulder injury on Friday, as shared by the 49ers’ PR department.
Kyle Shanahan responded:
“No, it didn’t get downgraded. It’s just not recovering as fast as we were hoping. That’s why we made the decision earlier to rule him out. As for long-term concerns, we don’t anticipate any. It’s more of a week-to-week situation at this point.”
Kyle Shanahan addressed Brock Purdy’s situation:
“I don’t want to say there’s long-term concern. We got the MRI on Monday and thought he just needed some rest. Initially, we weren’t worried about him being ready this week. But when he started up Thursday, the way it felt surprised him and us, so we had to shut him down.
I’m not sure what to make of it. The MRI doesn’t suggest anything major, so it should be fine. But the way his shoulder responded this week leaves next week uncertain. We’ll have to evaluate things again on Monday.”
Q: Did it happen on the touchdown run?
SHANAHAN: “He doesn’t know for sure. I don’t think so, but he can’t pinpoint a specific play where it happened.”
Q: Is it one of those things where as time went on it just started to bother him?
SHANAHAN: “Yeah, exactly. He didn’t notice it much during the game, but as time passed and the adrenaline wore off, it started to bother him more.”
Q: Is it one of those things where as time went on it just started to bother him?
SHANAHAN: “Yeah, he mentioned feeling tightness during the game, and it gradually got worse. That’s why he was warming up more than usual—he said it was hard to keep it loose. After the game, the pain intensified, and by Monday morning, it was bad enough that we decided he needed an MRI.”
Q: Will Brock stay behind for treatment rather than travel?
SHANAHAN: “No, he’ll come with us.”
