Thomas Brown Continues To Make A Strong Case For Replacing Matt Eberflus

Another week brought yet another disappointing loss for the Chicago Bears.

This time, they fell 30-27 in overtime to the Minnesota Vikings, with several coaching missteps contributing to the chaos.

The matchup was set to hinge on offensive coordinator Thomas Brown facing off against Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and his aggressive blitzing schemes. Brown delivered another strong performance, as Williams went 32 of 47 for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns.

It’s hard to overlook the influence Thomas Brown is having on Caleb Williams right now.

The numbers Williams has posted over the last two games highlight the immediate success Brown has achieved in his first stint as the Bears’ offensive coordinator. Williams even praised Brown for creating an environment that allows him to play freely and confidently. In just two games, Brown has had a more significant impact than Shane Waldron managed in nine.

Brown’s confidence and leadership stand in stark contrast to Matt Eberflus, who often appears timid and overly cautious. Once again, Eberflus’s conservative approach played a role in another heart-wrenching loss, coupled with uninspiring postgame press conferences and a HITS principle that no longer resonates in the locker room.

There’s little reason to keep Eberflus for the remainder of the season when the damage is already done. Thomas Brown has earned a chance to step in as interim head coach, especially given his growing reputation as a head coaching candidate across the league. His performance in the last two games has provided the Bears with a viable option. It’s time to see if Brown can be more than just an excellent offensive coordinator.
